Im looking to convert my Mk2 1800 16v to a 2.0l 16v and have sorced an engine from an Audi 80 engine code AAD, but im not sure now if ive got the correct engine for the job? Can anyone please spread some more light on this for me as i cant find any info on this AAD engine?

Which engine...abf or 9a goes into a 1990 mk2 golf gti 8v the easiest...

If your car is digifart then the ABF will be easier me thinks.

I had an ABF put into my 91 8v digifart. I was advised that the ABF engine was the most hassle free to install so thats why i got hold of one.

Can i ask how much that cost to be put in?
if i cant get a few mates to come and help and borrow th heated workshop at work

Hi there first time poster , long time lurker ..lol
Im interested in the 2ltr 16v conversion but i would like to do it the other way round .. i have an G reg audi 80 2.0e and a mk2 D reg golf GTi16v (changeover model ( breaking by the way ) and wondered if i could 16v the audi as it really does need more grunt .
I've looked and searched but cant seem to find a definative list of parts i need , can i use a combination of everything i have and is the conversion possible ?
Has anyone ever done this like i want to do it ? Ie golf to audi ?
I really am a newbie to Vag ( im really a rover man ...sorry ) but im loving the interchangeable bits of vag !
I do expect to be slated for the above paragraph ...but if i can do this conversion ..the audi will be staying for a lot longer .

The Audi 80 has a longitudinally mounted engine (doesn't it? ) so you'd need to find a 16v donor engine from another audi for all the longitudinally mounted specific parts (manifolds, sump/oil pickup, oil filter housing etc etc). I'd say the best bet would be to forget about the golf and find yourself a cheap audi donor and move everything over from that

Thanks for the answer .. i thought that might be an easier way of doing things .

Some pics of a VW 16v head set at TDC with correct inter-cam timing.
Note notch at 12 o clock on the exhaust cam belt drive pulley and the circular dots on the chainwheels facing each other LEVEL with the rocker cover gasket face.
Also note the imaginary line from 'point' of the cam lobes passing through the centre of the cam bearing studs on no1 cylinder ( cam belt end )
(Helpful for Schrick cams with no dots on the chainwheels)

Just out of curiosity, im in the middle of replacing all seals/gaskets on an ABF engine to go in my mk2 golf. Is it worth changing the chain drive for the cams or do these things last for ages? The engines done 90k
