A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Took the car to Stealth this morning for a RR tune up....
started out with 164bhp and 131lb/ft.
once they were done it produced 176bhp and 140lb/ft.
Obviously the figures can be taken with a pinch of salt but the way the car drives now is superb
A:
Good results Daz, you're right about the pinch of salt thing but the fact it feels better is far more important than specific numbers.
what are the engine specs?
A:
It's a standard ABF lump which has been fully rebuilt with new pistons etc..
50mm inlet manifold, original KR exhaust manifold and downpipe with the first middle box removed. Running on K-Jet with no other mods other than a "modified" air box.
A:
Good results indeed! Is that with a standard head then? I wouldn't expect any better figures than those for my 2 litre 16v (6A though) with a man in the shed head and ported exhaust manifold!
I bet it goes like a rocket!
What have you done to the air box?
A:
It's a completely standard ABF lump from top to bottom. The bloke said it was good results for a standard engine so I'm pleased with that.
It caught me out in first gear on my way back to work...it picks up for the last time at 6k and just banged straight onto the limiter from that
I butchered the airbox a few years back, think I took out a big section on the front right corner
A:
did you fold your seats down
A:
did you fold your seats down
I haven't got any in the back
A:
even better
your car looks very good on those avos how much and what they like to live with??
A:
I bought them about 3 years ago for around £500. They've been great so far and the only problem I've got with them now is that I can't adjust the height because I didn't protect them properly
The damping can still be adjusted all round though which makes it easy to get a comfortable ride

Yet! Interior is all in my garage for you now, thats some great figures you got mate.
A:
Great result. Getting your valver setup at Stealth is one of the best things you can do. Thoroughly recommend anyone with a 16v get it done if they can afford it. Doesnt cost much either really if you dont have any problems.

they sound quite good then hmm
added to need list

Have you got the plots?
176 seems really good without a P&P head but 140lb/ft seems low for a 2L ??
A:
I've got the printouts in the car. I'll try and get some pics up of them after work.
I think it's something to do with my exhaust with the torque because the old 1.8 was down aswell when that was RR'd.

This being my first trip there I can now vouch for that statement.
Just under £65 for a RR tune up with print outs to back it up. Bargain!
A:
Just out of curiosity, how do they tweak the ABF lump as i know that you can't do anything to it manually? I take it its done through the diagnostics etc?
Like to get it done on mine in the new year
A:
Mine's running on the old k-jet system so it's all manual.
On the mk3's they would need to plug it into the computer and play with it like that. Although I think that's more like £250 to be set up...
A:
Ah, thats why is was a tad easier on yours. Cheers for the info mate

I disagree - 140lbfft is is 70 per Litre - so fits perfectly in the normal 60-80 range for a road car in reasonable tune.
Remember it's a totally std engine. The extra power from a flowed head will nearly always come from increased torque when used with std cams. It's probably a fairly flat torque curve with the std cams and head.
A:
thats a really good result mate

that's why the plots will be interesting, KR inlet cam always seems to give a very distinctive torque curve, 1.8L, 2L flowed head or not, haven't seen many plots using ABF cams.
A:
so what did he do to gain the extra power??
A:
so what did he do to gain the extra power??
Just set the ignition timing up correctly. I had the engine rebuilt before it was put in so couldn't have it done on the RR straight away. I left it a bit longer than I should really seeing as it's done 6k now...

so the same as any half decent mechanic can do, i was totaly unimpressed but stealth tbh, all this tuning god and guru crap you read on forums
btw not having a dig at you daz...glad your happy
A:
your the first person I've heard say that. I was very impressed by them when I had my 9A set-up
