preparing an engine for starting...

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

if i was to come accross a G60 that hadnt been started for 2 years, what would i have to do to ensure i could start it without damaging some internals?
A:

if you have a air rachet you could whip the cam belt off and wizz up the oil pump via the intermediate shaft to pressurise the engine
fit a new filter and fresh oil
A:

is that all that would be needed? what is the cambelt like to do on a g60?
A:

its the same as a 8v to do......might as well replace all the service items if you can
A:

ok sweet man thanks, so some clean oil pumped round the engine will let me just turn the key and BAM yea? sweet
A:

well hopefully yeah.....
where in essex are ya?? im on the border
A:

im near romford, where abouts are u? ive also been told to put plus gas in the bores the night before too. are the breaks and clutch likely to cease aswell?

If it's been sat with the handbrake on, expect that to be stuck on. Rocking the car back and forward with engine power should free it up, of not a block of wood over the wheels and whack it with a hammeras someone else rocks it. If still not then remove wheels and hammer the calipersback ond forth (not with someone rocking it though, lol)
The clutch MIGHT be stuck, but I've always found pointing the car so it can't hit anything, putting it in gear, putting the clutch peddle down and starting it in gear will cause it to come undone, if not when you first start it, then the first time you hit the throttle.
Hope this helps.
A:

Give it a good service before hand and make sure plenty of water in cooling sytem and that all oil feed pipes to the charger are not loose or corroded etc.
If you were anal you could turn the engine over by hand first.

Or unplug the dizzy centre cable and earth it, then turn it over for a while just on the starter motor.

Or that
A:

a friend suggested taking out the spark plugs and droping a bit of oil in to lubricate the bores then turn it over by hand or unplug the dizzy and turn on starter motor
A:

thanks for all the suggestions guys, similar to what i was told at work etc. hoping to pick it up soon, anyone know some1 in essex with a tow truck that would like to move a car for me?!
A:

It's better to unplug the dizzy hall sender plug and turn it over on the starter, no HT to destroy things...
It's better to change the oil after 100 miles or so, flush the bore rust rather than get it in the new oil...
A:

I'd turn it over by hand to check it's not seized. Then turn it over without a spark to pump oil round it.
Make sure you start it out of gear in case the clutch has seized, but if it's been in reasonably dry conditions (even outside with the bonnet closed) it probably won't have happened.
A:

its been outside on concrete with bonnet closed and i pressed the clutch and it got stuck down, flicked it up and pressed it a few more times and it felt fine, i turned the crank with a socket and ratchet, smooth as u like, so not seized. any common faults on these? are the electrics liekly to be f****d? also is the spoiler on a corrado hydraulic or electric?
A:

Get the charger rebuilt if it has not had a recent rebuild. If it has no recent rebuild history then don't be tempted to run the car for a few weeks or months before you get it done, even if it seems to be boosting perfectly well. Get it done immediately. I learned this the hard way after owning the Syncro for a few weeks! Seriously, if it has not been rebuilt then DON'T run it until you've sent it to G-Werks or Pitstop for a rebuild, costing around £400ish or under. It is a ticking timebomb otherwise.
any common faults on these?

A:

why wot goes wrong with it? and where does this and how much?
what happened to you then?

They self destruct
A:

The best two places are or . Jabbasport no longer have a good reputation for G-charger rebuilds.
A:

Here is a page worth looking at:
It shows you what the inside of the G-charger looks like, how it works, and illustrates why it must have frequent rebuilds.
A:

if you want to be extra carefull, remove the spark plugs, then remove the hall sender plug off the dizzy, then turn it over off the ignition key.T his way you are not putting any strain on the bearings from the compression in the cylinders, turn it over for 10 or so secs to build up the oil pressure, refit the plugs, refit the hall sender plug, and give it a go, change the oil and filter the same day, run it till its hot, then drain it to make sure it all comes out, oh and remove the dizy cap and spray some wd40 inside to drive out any moisture that has collected over time
A:

would i be able to rebuild the charger myself if i got the bearings n seals? its pretty straight forward yea? i am a ford apprentice mechanic so should be ok!
plan of action:
turn engine over without sparks with old/flushing oil in it
replace sparks and start engine
run for 30 mins
change oil and filter, renew service items, drive belt and service charger....
sound good?

Might be worth getting that done at G-Werks. If the charger goes bang then its all over, and the bill will be fun
