A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hello to everyone, I would say im new to the golf scene but i had a mk1 cab not to long ago. anyway.. I now own a mk2 gti 8v, and im wondering what could make the MFA give incorrect readings? mainly being the fuel consumption dial. Im sure the cars doing around 30 but its reading 17? were they not accurate or is my car actually drinking juice? I will being doing a compression test on it tommorow, but im sure the readings will be good as it pulls strong and shows no signs of worn rings or valves. any help appreciated
A:
Ignore what the MFA says, they generaly read miles out, some being worse than others.
A:
cheers i was hoping for this to be said. I dont want a car that does 17mpg :D . what should it return under normal driving and heavy driving?
also can someone give me figures for a standard 8v 1.8 gti (1991), maybe 0-60 or 1/4 mile as im sure this car isnt standard. No visable engine mods from outside but im wondering if it could have a cam or headwork (although inlet/exhaust manifolds are stock). Its more than likely stock and im to used to 1.3 polos:D
A:
isnt the MFA vacume controlled? if there is a problem with the hose then the MFA read in correctly. the mfa on my mk3 is generally accurate to 0.2 mpg.
there are much better ways to work out your mpg

You're lucky if my MFA reads to within 5mpg of what i'm getting.
Your golf has 112bhp from the factory and does 0-60 in under nine seconds, 117mph flat out and at a guess it would MAYBE do the quarter in about 17-18 seconds.
FRom the top of my head, so they are just "roughly"

I know how to do it the right way, im just new to this MFA stuff and wondered if it actually works but i think the simple answer to this is no? thanks anyway, im gonna have to fill the tank up and work it out now :)
A:
my mfa isnt actually that far out, only a few tenths of an mpg.
its most useful for oil temp etc IMO
A:
yea im not to bothered the fuel one is miles out, would have been nice though! I Just noticed the oil temp isnt giving a reading, is that sensor linked to the ECU? and do they do them at GSF.

Same here, seems pretty much spot on..
Out of interest, can you program the oil temp display as the default instead of the clock?
A:
Ok today it was giving 18mpg. i know ive said im not to bothered, but what would be at fault, the clocks, or sensors? can someone expain how it works exactly.
A:
1/4 mile time for a standard 8v is about 16.5 I think.

cool i havent had a go but i didnt think it would be in the 16's. do you know the 0-60 average
A:
It seems to vary from source to source, on average probably about 8.5 seconds
A:
my mk2 8v ran 15.81 at Elvington @ 81 mph.
mods were :BVH/266 kent cam /ported standard manifold /2.25" exhaust / k&n cone filter.
A:
my mpg reads 99.9 the mph dont work the miles dont work
its really only usefull for oil temp. waits for 80 degrees........then fun begins!

cheers ill have to see what mine will do. Im very happy with its performance as its believed to be stock(still unsure ;) ) just got a few things i need to tweek before i drive it hard.
can anyone advise me on uprated chips? ive seen "blitz" ones on ebay for little money? can anyone rate these or confirm their any good?
A:
Blitzchips have been fitted by a few members of this forum and they all say it made a difference for the better
A:
stuck a blitz chip in my 8v digi last week seems to do the trick like!

Cool was it an ebay purchase or elsewhere? they seem to be going for around £25 on the bay. also i was gonna ask are there different chips for different ECU numbers? mines a H plate 91. it seems a worthy mod so ill be getting one.
