A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Fitting an 'AGG' code engine into a Golf digifant...
Using a AGG bottom end and a 1.8 head.
All is well, however;
Cambelt covers... which ones do I use (1.8 / 2.0 or a mixture?)
I have a gearbox and clutch spare from a Golf 16 valve. Can I fit this to the AGG engine? If so, would I need to use a different starter motor?
Thanks!
A:
not sure about the starter altho i would have thought that they would fit, the clutch is no good altho use the pressure plate for a bit more bite than the 8v one.
the cambelt covers will have to be 2l ones to allow for the extra height that you have gained
A:
Use a complete MK2 16v clutch kit with your old 1.8 flywheel, and it will bolt straight on. You can also just buy an 8v clutch kit and use your old gearbox, just chose the one thats in better nick. The only difference is that the 8v will have a taller 5th so less revs on the motorway, and the 16v has a larger input shaft. The old 1.8 starter will work with either gearbox.
If you use the 2.0 cambelt cover, you'll also need to use the 2.0 rocker cover. You may be able to use the 1.8 cambelt cover if you use the 1.8 rocker cover, but don't quote me on that.
You'll also need a 2e dizzy, becasue the AGG dizzy hall sender works differently.

Thanks for all the advise... superb and it's sorted me out!
16 valve clutch on order now. I have found a spare 16 valve flywheel in the garage - can I use that? on this engine / box too?
And, I take it that I can use the mounting brakets from the 1.8 engine to fit to the 2.0 one?
A:
If its a MK2 flywheel, then you can use it no bother. 8v & 16v flys are the same
Yup, swap all the engine mount brackets to the 2.0, and bolt it down on MK2 engine mounts. I recommend you get a new 16v/G60 rear mount as they're a bit more heavy duty than the 8v mounts. You have to unbolt the bracket from the subframe to fit it cos it so large!

You're a genius... thanks once again!!

I have my moments

The input shaft on the 16v gearbox is bigger than the 8v one, rendering half of your 16v kit useless if you use a 8v gbox. i found this at my own expense or so i remember

yes I know, it was refering to his question asking if he could use his spare 16v box. Notice in the same post I also mentioned that if he wanted to use his 8v gearbox, he would need an 8v clutch kit, and also that a 16v gearbox has a larger input shaft

Cheers guys, have a new clutch for the 16 valve box, 16 valve flywheel all ready to bolt on now!
