A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hi all
On my never ending quest to get the golf running better i brought a gunson compression gauge today to see where i was with the general health of the engine. Just done a test and this is what i found.
Its either either amazingly good or there's other problems. Seems high to me ( left the haynes manual at home..) but im no expert at this engine thing.... (or i would of fixed it by now i guess..)
1=15.5 bar (224.8 PSI)
2=16 bar (232 PSI)
3=15.5 bar (224.8 PSI)
4=16 bar (232 PSI)
Wot you guys think?

i'd consult the manual for the correct figures, they do seem a little high from what i can remember, do you have any paperwork to say the heads been skimmed, maybe overskimmed ?
A:
I dont think the heads been off, but i really i dont know.
Ive had the car for about 3 months i guess and its just starting to play up alot.

They seem high - but the Gunson readers aren't too accurate on the dial. They are consistent, which is most important....... what's the problem with the car's running?

I'd read that the gunsons arnt the most accurate, but i thought it would be a good idea to see whats (maybe) happening in there..
Cars been missing and hestitant for a few weeks. Seems to be lacking the power it had once. It doesnt pull as well. Seems to smoke a bit at times, never noticed it when driving but im not sure if thats just a rich mixture. It seems to use a bit oil as well..
I was having a look in the breather hose the other day and saw the dreaded white / brown sauce not of the HP varity.. Not noticed it before.
It only seems to be in the breather system not under the filler cap?
I thought head gasket might be on the out, though theres not that much white gunk ... im still not sure Maybe just condensation in the oil from previous times ive had the hoses off? Maybe the oil cooler gasket, can that happen?
Ive attacked the ignition system again today and picked up a coil from a passat that looks identical.
Before i changed the coil i took some readings from the wiring.
I measured 12v ok and then saw 2 ohms to ground off the earth lead.
wasnt sure if theres a ballest on this model?
Didnt think it was 100% right, dont have a wiring diagarm for the car..
I tryed to trace the wiring but didnt get very far other than it goes down to the battery tray and maybe beyond..
I checked again and measured nearer 0.1 ohm differance to the battery terminal, a lot more better. This was after moving cables about looking for an earth connection to the chassis.
I cleaned some more earths up on the battery terminal just in case.
I still dont know were the earth return ends up for the coil, or if the reading i got was moody.
I did checkthe earth from a few differant places as well when i saw 2 ohms.
Also ive just replaced the vacuum hose's for the fuel pressure regulator and connected bits.
I found a perishing hose as well that goes onto the bottom of the throttle body at a right angle. It comes from a electric pump like looking thing on the drivers wing that also seems to go to a plastic round thing under the wing.
Im sure fuel is involved, is this the second fuel pump?. Pipe dosent seem to be leaking yet though..
If i can sort a picture out l'll add it to this post.
Having driven the car home it seems better but i think its still missing a bit, though not as bad. Time will tell as the cars possed im sure of that now
Sorry its a long post, again...
Heres some pics.. All the spark plugs look pretty much the same.
