A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Alright Guys,
Do any of the Standard Sumps I can put on my 9A have a lower profile? I hear the late ABF one is ally, but is it same depth/design as earlier ones anyway?
I am going to have to change it soon anyway as i've flattened mine on a few unseen bumps in road.
Cheers,
Dave
A:
MK1s and maybe early MK2s have a smaller sump
A:
You could dry sump it I guess, hardly cheap tho!
A:
Just drive over a speedbump at about 46mph, should be enough to flatten the sump down nicely
A:
if you design one a good engineers workshop would be able to adapt one from a scrappers, dont forget to make it wider or something though to keep the sump oil capacity the same
A:
ahh, ok, thanks for the replies guys.
I was just asking in case any of the std options were slightly lower profile, if not then I'll just go for a std sump I guess, I don't want to get to involved in it.
rubjonny, i've already done that, so thought I better put a new one on! lol
I do like the idea of a custom one, but dont reallyhave the funds at the moment. Might get busy on the cad at some point, am suprised noones done it already tbh, esp with a heights people seem to run. Not sure how widening it would work as youd need access to teh bolts...
Is there any benifit in running the ABF alloy sump?
A:
I'm sure the MK1 sumps are lower profile like I said, I know they have a smaller capacity at least.
I actually have a MK1 1.6 block & a MK2 1.8 block in my garage if you want comparison pics?
A:
That would be brilliant, thanks!
Dave
A:
dave make a skid plate, im ok with mine my alternator is lower than the sump :)
A:
ok here are the pics.
Old sump:
New sump:
Doesn't look like theres a great deal in it, the newer sump is chunky but the old sump still sticks down a fair bit in the middle. Lookin at the pics tho it is a tad shorter
If you live near bracknell you can have it (and you'll get a nice MK1 1.6 GTI lump for free )
A:
I happen to live in Reading, lol!
Am unfortuntaly in Potters Bar at the moment at the 'rents, If I need it I'll give you a shout, back in Berks this weekend. Wouldnt want to take it unless I need it though, or I guess I could ebay it anyway )
A:
Oh yeah, on GS&F site the sumps (mk1 and 9A) are identical GS&F part numbers, seem to be on ETOS as well...
?
A:
Well when I looked at GSF, I saw that MK1 & MK2 sumps up to 85 are 11634, and later sumps are 11635
In ETOS, the sumps all have the same part number, I assume because the smaller sump has been discontinued and replaced with the larger one? That makes mine a RARE GENUINE VW LOW PROFILE SUMP LOWERED 8V 16V G60
