Oil in water...Oil cooler or headgasket?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

If any one could advise me i'd gbe greatful! I've got oil in my coolant and it's gone creamy/browny and thick kind of curdled bits in, the oil level has gone down but there is no sign of water in the oil.
Could this be the oil cooler or am i looking at the headgasket? Or could it be something else that i don't know about?!
The car is a mk3 golf gti 8v, any advise would be hugely appreciated!

I'd say the oil cooler. It's a common problem on all VW's. Get a compression test done on the cooling system just to be sure.

im more inclined to say the oil cooler as like mentioned above its very common. Also a lot cheaper to replace than the headgasket!

I'm inclined to say its an early sign of the head gasket failing.
The head gasket went on my car just before I got it from another forum member and I spent a long time cleaning out the header tank for oily/browny residue as the guys mechanic obviously couldnt be ars*d to do it when he did everything else.
I'd get it checked asap as I have a reciept for £600 showing new rad, head gasket, head skim etc etc.

You need to run a pressure test on the coolant system, this takes about 10 minutes, if the system is producing too much pressure then it can only be the head gasket, on a mk3 the labour time is about 3.5 hours, and budget about £100=150 ish on top of that for parts and a head skim. If pressure is normal then it is most likely to be Oil/water cooler this is about 20 mins labour and you can get second hand ones off most vag petrol engines.
hope this helps
