Thermotime switch - 16V MK2 - quick question

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I am finally going to replace my TTS this weekend (getting worse with the cold weather)
Is the switch dry or wet? By that i mean will oil or water p!ss out when i remove the old one?
**Also, VW just quoted £69 with the VAT :( Can i get it cheaper anywhere else?
Thanks
A:

ooooooooh £70
from what i remeber water comes out...be quick and you wont spill much
A:

Cheers, coolent i can live with :)
I am sure when i last looked at this it was £32!
Do GSF do these? - I may have to risk it from them if so?
A:

i bet you could fit one in your pocket at a scrapy
A:

No doubt :) Although, there are not many scrapies with 16V down my way :( And knowing my luck i'd get 4 dud ones in a row like i did with the WUR's LoL
I'll post an ad in the wanted section :) See what turns up!
A:

Yeah, pretty sure you'll just loose a bit of coolant that's all if you swap it over quickly. I put a bit of PTFE tape on the thread of mine when when swapping engines as it leaked a little coolant without.
£70! I think I'd go with the scrapyard/wanted ad method and see how you get on!
A:

Cheers Stu!
Got a bite for a tenner delivered, i can live with that :)
Got to love this place :)
A:

it has been stated above but I can also confirm that coolant will come out as I did this myself only last week.
A:

A note to try and help, if it's just cold starting then it could be TTS but if the cold running is bad as well then it wont be.
A:

Thanks guyz,
Shabba - was it difficult? did a socket fit over it, or did you have to struggle with a spanner?
Golden - yes it's just cold starting, runs fine then, i hooked up a switch to the 5th injector to rule the TTS out and it seems it's the culprit!
And it's in such the buggery of places aswell! - Think i'll need a set of knuckles aswell :)
A:

you need a deep socket kev.....might be 24mm but check first before buying one
A:

GTI_Kev does your car start OK once it's warmed up a bit? My valver hates starting from cold when the car hasn't been run for 12+ hours. But once you've run it a bit it starts fine straight after, slowing getting worse requiring more cranking to start it as time goes on.
A:

24mm DEEP socket does the trick.
A:

Thanks!!!!! I am sure i got one of them :)
Vegabass - Once started for a minute or two it will start fine - i have done the WUR mod, so it's a lumpy for a few minutes anyways, In the haynes there is a test for the TTS, you can jump start it as it were, to work the 5th injector!

This sounds like a dodgy fuel accumulator loosing pressure over time or a knackered WUR to me, mine used to do something similar and it was the WUR in the end.
A:

OK, got my second hand TTS, at the moment i have not replaced it but instead, plugged in the wires to it and i have it tied to the outlet hose on the side of the block with the end touching the block.
Now would this be ok to test it on cold morning? I thought it would be the same as the temperature would be the same and that's all it senses yes?
