A&Q about 350Z
Q:
is it straight forward to change fuel filter, will fuel spill out or what???
thanks
A:
Think it should be ok with minimal loss, just be ready to catch some fuel in a container when you remove the fuel lines. It will be under pressure so be carefull.
Proberbly best to clamp the lines in and out of the filter as well...
Its after the pump so as long as the pump isint running...
Think theres 2 on the mk3 (GTI).
Ive got something under the wing on the drivers side that your suposed to empty any water out now and again.
Ive not tryed either yet so im also interested in other peoples experience with this.
A:
Dissconnect the battery when working on the fuel filter.

Ignore the above comment, he's a fool. The VW manual clearly states that the technician should either be smoking a cigarette or playing with fireworks, THROUGHOUT the entire procedure.

good call
I remember years ago an old friend tinkering with cars. This was an old hillman avenger
He had left the battery charging over night with the top up bungs still in, fag in hand as usual, got near the battery and it exploded
Covered himself in acid and blow the battery appart
No one died, and something to take the p**s / larf about later.
Thinking about it we've got a main power pylon next to us at work, around 275,000 volts kicking around up there. Its really not that far away, it towers above our unit.
I dont like it at all

True, but unlikely, these days a much bigger problem is the fuel pump priming itself when you open the drivers door, not on a mk3 tho..........

Is that like an automatic 'feature' then on some cars, or just dodgy electrics?!!
A:
Mk4's upwards use that priming system, who knows why!

Guess it will wear out quicker so guaranteed spares sales and servicing!

Its not too good a system. We had one in the workshop partially dismantled as it was in for a cambelt. Without thinking I opened the car door to get somthing out and it sprayed the mechanic in the face with fuel! Really not funny but I pi**ed myself at the time!

ooops....
