as above it on a p plate, get all dash lights, wipers , radio the lot.
when you go to turn the ign sitch , it does nothing!!! intresting the lights if they are on will go from main to dip when you turn the ign key. tried jump starting, replacing the transponder coil (these aint car specific are they?) , checked voltage to starter and i have 12v+, and on the small wire which i belivev is the one that should supply voltage, from ign barrel when its turned i have nothing at all times.
im thinking ign switch, is there a way to prove this???

Turn on ignition and cross the starter under the bonnet. This bypasses your ignition switch altogether for test purposes. AFAIK, you cross between the 12v+ and the switch wire, Depending on your starter type

only way to make sure is to test the continuity of the wire from the starter to the switch, if the wire is good then id go for the switch, do you have an imobilisor at all

I had this problem, intermittently at first, and then it was all the time, like yours. It was the ignition switch on mine. Quite a common fault it appears. £17+ VAT from VW. Need a puller to get the spline off the column to get to it, other than that its straightforward to change.
