A&Q about 350Z
Q:
A while ago i asked if anyone knew where to get info on my car as it was a GTi Engineering car, since then i've found nothing... Today i just happened to talk to a bloke who works in 1 of the units down the road from us and it turns out he used to own my car! Random or what! Apparantly the car was one of the first they did and was owned by the bloke who ran BBR, hence why it didn't have a conversion plate on the slam pannel. Anyway, it turns out the engine that was in it was a 1.9 8v with a shrich (sp?) cam and a few other little mods. Would this be worth much to anyone? It might be in a bit of a state at the mo though, been sitting outside for a fare while.
Would it be worth me re-building it to sell on???
A:
Could be good if you still have the original engine. I'd imagine it would have a Schrick 276 and a modified head at the least, possibly with bigger valves, you'd need to strip it to find out. If it's all still servicable then it depends on what somebody wants to pay.

Hi Mark
I may be interested in the engine if you're interested in breaking the car?
I need one that will be straight with minimal work however, I already have one which requires stripping and rebuilding!
Thought about buying one to fettle over the winter and drop into the car in time for the MOT in April....
Cheers
Paul

It's certainly worth more MOT'd and running than sat in a field. Can you start it? If the shell is really bad you might be better stripping it for bits... is it a Mk1 or a Mk2
GTI Engineering turned into these guys. Suggest you give them a call and ask how to identify the engine - they should have stamped some bits of it, and might know the correct engine number.

It's already out the car a long time ago and was running when removed. I'll whip the head of some time this week and see what we're dealing with. What size are standard 1.8 valves? and what bore would it be to make it a 1.9?
Barry, it's been sitting a while and i wouldn't really want to sell it to you as a definate runner although all should be good! i think i'm gonna gonna give it a slight overhall to make it all good.
A:
got a 1.9 8v gti eng engine myself. valves will be 35 and 40 and should have a schrick 276. ported, polished, lightened and balanced, and strengthened.
A:
Ah, well that sounds good, i'm hopefully gonna strip it down this weekend and see what we've got. Are they the satandard size valves or larger? Anyone interested if it all looks good?
A:
both larger by 2mm
A:
Wierd, just measured the valves and they are 33.5(ish) and 40. but there is F**K all gap between them. like 2mm at the most. And the bores are about 82mm. Does this say 1.9 to someone? Doesn't seem to much of a gap between the bores either...
A:
82mm bore with a standard 1800 crank @ 86.4 would gice you 1825cc. I "think" some of the more basic conversions may have had a ported head but on standard valve sizes.
A:
If it's the Mk1 in your sig, then they had 38mm inlets as standard, and 33 exhausts, as did the KJet MK2 8v cars.
Those are the 1.8 Mk1 valve sizes...not sure about 1.6 cars.
