Q:
Car 1990 MKII 16 Valve 90 spec with round header tank
I’m having to change my coolant return hose ( runs from top of rad back to the header tank) again as its still leaking
The hose (7-8mm bore hose originally cloth covered) is attached to the outlet with what looks like a C shaped clip (the garage fitted the hose for me) is there a special way to remove these clips ?
Pete
A:
Squeeze the two tangs together with some pliers and slide down the pipe. Then replace them with stainless steel jubilee clips to allow easy removal next time. Regards Sean

Like a crimped on clip, not a jubilee-type one? Just cut it off........
A:
mole grips are easier to use
A:
Yes TSC there not the big ones you squeeze together, its more like a ring, is there a way to get them off without damaging the hose?
A:
Side cutters.

Pain in the ass to get em off without mole grips. Go and buy some and be amazed!!!
A:
i always use side cutters
A:
Mole grips or big pliers and twist till it breaks... careful not to snap the outlet pipe though.
A:
Tin snips........
A:
mole grips i keep em on cause there easier than normal clips as long as you have a set of mole grips :)

you're thinking of the wrong type of clip....
not the normal coolant hose clips... but the crimped one for the radiator overflow
A:
Be careful Pete, I tried to remove the same clip on my Mk1 expansion tank outlet by twisting it with pliers and snapped off the plastic spout from the expansion tank, of course they don't make the tank anymore (it was 30 years old...) so had to replace it with a standard later Mk1 tank
Best bet is to use a cutting tool and carefully cut the clip off then replace it with a little jubilee clip as above
A:
Cheers fellas its the clip darryn mentioned, got it ff this morning, just gave the hose a good pull and the whole thing slid off it was a samco 8mm hose so I think it was too big, I replaced it with some fuel hose from halfords and used the clips provided with that, hopefully this should fix the leak, out of interest I could only get 7.5mm hose should I have used 7mm?
