A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hi Guys,
Here goes!
I have tried to replace my oil cooler housing on my 16v KR engine off my Mk2 GTi because it was seeping oil and the threads which mate to the cooler and filter were wrecked.
The part I had to replace the biffed housing was from an online breakers and wouldnt fit - I have included a pic of the broken housing (on the right) it has an offset top mount! and the other incompatible housing (to the left.)
Any ideas why there is confusion and where can obtain the correct part / how much?
As my motor is obviously not going anywhere at the mo.
Cheers fellas

using the engines ive played with in my experience thelonger one is of a tall block the shorter one of normal short block.
A:
Cheers, but can I go to GSF and grab one? Sorry but whats the difference between the tall and normal block? Only fitted the engine about 2 months ago? Was told it was a 1990 Euro Spec 16v engine!
Cheers

A:
sorry no idea if gsf do them, its the sort of part to pick up from a breakers for not very much.
A:
Back from GSF they dont do them, although they have found a gasket that fits off a mk3 16v??? Getting confused now - my motor is totally fecked at the mo!!
Dont know of any breakers round here that do mk2 valvers!!
Doh!
A:
the difference in tall and short block is about 16mm in height iirc
A:
if the abf gasket fits [tallblock] then that is what housing you need. are you sure yours is an 1800.
A:
the housings changed around 1991/2 on all engines, regardless of whether they are tall block ACE/ABF's or older 6A's/9A's or kr's, in fact all the 8v petrol engines are much the same.
I needed a late style bracket for a late audi 6A block (the offset type like your broken one) and got one off a 1.6 SEAT Toledo engine, I've only ever seen the type you don't need on older cars, pre 1991 1.8 16v's and that age and older 8v's.
You should also notice that the offset type has a black plastic crankcase breather unit on the front of the block rather than a cast alloy one that goes with the older style oil bracket.
A:
Well as sure as I can be - it was supplied to me as a 1990 Euro Spec Mk2 16v engine!
Will put a pic in this message so you can tell me what you think.
Cheers
A:
Well GSF cant supply the Oil Cooler Housing at all and have advised me to go to VW - anyone out there know anywhere else I can obtain the correct one before i have to remortgage to pay vw prices!!
Cheers Guys!!

my local scrappy, IRO £5, I'll take a look this weekend, there was a SEAT in there last weekend with one on, even the other expensive breakers I used for my replacement a couple of years ago only charged me a tenner off the shelf for one.
I'd suggest you look in the yellow pages and ring a few places, any post 92 VW or SEAT with a 1.6 or above 4cylinder engine should have one on it.
Sod's law, but I've got the audi angled version (to clear the audi 80 engine mount) and the other earlier style one at home in my garage!

Hi Guys,
Got an Oil Cooler Housing from an online breakers - £16.50 with next day delivery!! Well impressed with their service, car is back on the road at long last - however have noticed a small oil leak at work this evening - not sure where its from, dripping from somewhere onto the sump, oh well another day another job for the car.
Cheers for the help
