A&Q about 350Z
Q:
my golf gti 8v has developed a knock which sounds like its coming from the drivers side front wheel. i do have a ripped steering boot on that side, may it be that. My steering has not changed at all. What could this be.
Cheers

When is it happening mate? When you hit a bump? when you are putting on a lot of lock?
A:
well maybe a bit on a bump but it reali only happens when slowly pulling away like 5 -10 mph also that 5door is lush!!

Cheers mate!
Is it doing it once as you pull away or a few times one after the other until up to a certain speed? Can you talk me through when it does it?
A:
ok, well start her up and maybe drive and turn the wheel to get out my drive there be like 1 or 2 knocks but only when the motion of the car changes, aounds like someone knocking on the window but to me sounds like its coming from the wheel, it only knocks when im mernouvreing it to be fair then it dissappears, but then again it could still be doing it but i just cant hear it but im pretty sure it stops.
Basically, it only knocks when i move from stationary or say drop the clutch when sitting in traffic to set off again.
Cheers

If it's doing it whilst taking up drive it sounds to me like a CV joint is on it's way out. Climb under the car somehow and grab a hold of the driveshaft and try moving it in all directions as hard as you can, back and forth, up and down, in and out etc. If there is a lot of travel in either one end or the other (or both for that matter) then your that CV joint is fubar.
A:
ok ok, is that a massive problem or is it just a case of changing it then getting it retracked
A:
yep sounds like a cv joint. check gaiters are on on ok. i had one lose, packed it full of grease and tie wraped it up and was fine again
A:
dont use cable ties to hold cv boot on.. i did that.... bloody grease all over my arche and everywhere...

It's more a pita to change than anything else, but not expensive if you can do it yourself.
A:
well i had a look at the drive shaft and gave it a yank and it didn't move at all ... so .. i really dont know what to do, but to be fair i only had it up on a wheel jack so couldn't give it a massive yank but from what i did it seemed pretty solid.
ARGGGHHH
whats up with my car!!!
