at inters someone should bring their 1.6 driver to the strip - with weber carb, gti exhaust, Wiv a cam etc.

Hello J Man, if you modify your car AND tell your insurers (like you
should... ) then you may well find the insurance is similar as for a
standard 8V GTi.
My driver has a 2 litre TSR engine, lowered, big bumpers, GTi front
brakes, and other subtle mods and the insurance is very similar to a GTi
8 V. I told my insurers every detail, even down to the gear knob.

Mine did the 1/4 at inters last year with full interior and a load of extra stuff at about 17.6 (I think)
Richgits 1.6 with/wiv a cam and a weber was about 1 or 2 car length behind mine at the end.
So, cam and weber adds the best part of the difference between a 1.6 and a 1.8 driver.
A stripped out driver with tyres and suspension setup properly can get in the low 17's which is the worse side of a 8v gti's time.

I'd go with the majority here and not bother tuning a driver, i spent to much cash on my old heap over 4 years with a weber carb and bits(well i thought it was great then , and yes everybody has to start somewhere)
Best bet is upgrade the chassis and when you can afford a GTI, swap it round. Sell the driver with all the GTI bits on and your laughing. That's what i did anyway after i got told for the upteenth time that it aint worth the cash tuning a driver!

And mine is still slower than some 1.8 KR's apparantly!

My money's on Malc Ring's mk1 2.0 16v "Driver" with about 230bhp.
