My Throttle Body Thread (pics)

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Look what came through the post today!
Some of the stuff required for the fitting of the TB's.
I will be stripping the KJet off the car this friday, and hopefully get it ready for the rolling road the following thursday.
I will add pics and descriptions along the way.
I cant wait im like a kid!

What throttle bodies and ECU are you using?
A:

Which baseplate is that for the filter? Have you had it custom drilled from a blank one, or is it one of the ready made fitments they sell?
^^^^And what golden said
A:

The base plate is from piper cross. they do them pre-cut, or blank. The info they need is the centre distance between the inner 2 tb's. Mine was 100mm, and the base plate is 101mm.
The TB's are Webber Alpha. as some of you know ive had them for some time now, just getting round to fitting them.
heres a couple more pics.
I was going to go for the K&N filter, as they now have integral plastic trumpets. but not sure on the space in the engine bay. plus they dont look as good as shiny trumpets.
But the K&N filters might give more performance. Thats just a future thought.

A:

looks good jim whats all the rest of the parts for and where ddi you get them from i need some more
have you decided on your injectors and ecu yet

A:

The injectors, are Grey injectors. I bought it all ages ago, after the dudes engine broke!
In the pics, there is a cheapish fuel filter (Just to get me started)
Throttle Linkage.
Fuel Pressure Regulator - 3Bar (None adjustable)
Trumpets - Which i got for a v good price.
I bought most of it from Demon Tweeks at inters, and the Trumpets from a website (not got the name to hand)
Just getting everything all in one place before friday, and the long weekend. (got all next week off also)
A:

are you going to use the standard fule pump im going to order some more parts in the morning i think :)

A:

Is the throttle linkage made by a company called Syntec or something like
that? If so it's absolute sh[/i]it. I've got one myself. It just about does the
job but the fit's appalling and the price is totally unjustified when you
look at how simple a design it is and how bad the welds are.
Make sure you get the tension of the bodies onto the manifold spot on to
avoid air leaks. Also paper gaskets between the bodies/filter baseplate/
trumpets are recommended.
A:

i was lookin at the linkage from rally design its about £45 as apposd to £90 i have seen
A:

Can you tell me the price and place to get trumpets?
A:

Isnt such a short trumpet a bit detrimental to power/torque..??
A:

not really, trumpet lenght a vary from car to car...engine to engine depending wot mods have been done.
its one of those 'suck it and see' things
A:

His manifold gives the inlet a bit more length compared to the dth bodies, so it'll probably want slightly shorter trumpets than yours is happy with.
A:

why martin, what calcs have you done?
which harmonic, not knocking just interested

I will be using the one on the car, which has been upgraded. Northampton Motorsport mentioned it would be ok.
Just need to remove the accumalator from the system.

The throttle linkage is a webber one. so should be ok. looks good to me. (and im really picky). IIRC it was about £65.
I hadnt thought about gaskets on that side. will look into it.

Yep -
The guy there is really helpfull and good prices also.
Isnt such a short trumpet a bit detrimental to power/torque..??
As mentioned above its all dependant on engine, and the work been carried out.
A very good explantion is described here -
In the scheme of things it will have little effect. The major itme i was loking for was the a small length as to fit in the space in the mk1.
A:

It was a bit of a generalisation wasn't it?
In theory with all else being equal the added length of the manifold would mean that you'll need shorter trumpets to give the same overall inlet length from head to bell mouth.

Agreeded! The guys at NMS, said that it wont change too much. the new air horn system that K&N use come in one length, and are plastic. see pic above ^^^
A:

i can recommend XLR8 - i bought my rebuild kits for the DHLAs from them - great service

The Weber one should be fine. As long as the fit's good and the welding's
OK.
I've got a few spare gaskets. If you want a set bunging in the post just let
me know.

Just looking at the Manifold and it has screws that can be adjusted into the internal part. is this used to balance the air flow for each cylinder??
Also there is a pipe that sticks out the right hand side from cylinder 4. is this used for the vaccum for the brake servo??

yes&yes
A:

Cheers MK1. I answered my own questions didnt i?
Just needed to bounce the ideas off some one.
Just a couple more questions:
Where can i find a Permanent Switched live. One that will still give ~12v while cranking?

A:

where do you need it?
In engine bay there's one on the coil +ve, inside the car there's normally a couple spare on the back of the fusebox
