A&Q about 350Z
Q:
good work m8,keep it up!
neil.
A:
Cheers neil! i need the encouragment, im knackered!
Ive got a 1.2 nova rad. it looks small.
I went to the local motor factors, and found this out.
GTE - Core Demensions
530L 285H
1.2 - Core Demensions
530L 229H (+legs)
But the same water capacity 5.5 -6 L
Work that one out???
I will try and use the 1.2L one first, because ive got all the fan and the sensors etc. and i think it will sit alot lower with the extra legs chopped off. Just gotta work the brackets out now
ohh i have sourced a GTE rad of the net, but not certain if i will need it. will the GTE work better? (iguess it will)
A:
i used the fan set up from a 1.2 nova, plugged straight in and did the job brilliantly!
just made a couple custom brackets that slipped on/bolted to the corsa rad which also worked really well, guy at rolling road commented on how cool it ran for a vw!
keep the pics coming too m8,and drink plenty coffee
neil.

Cheers Neil!!
Heres some more pics. slowly coming along.

Some radom hammer hitting!! LOL
All electrics in. (Spot the Mitsubishi Fan Scotty you monkey!!! )
Stop for a beer break and some food.
Cheffesss!!
Looking good!! excuse the red bits, not gonna be there in the final item. just to get it running.
Full Throttle Orgasm (or as my scotty friend would say FTO)
Bit of art!
Final one of the day. more tommorrow. god this seems to go on!
All electrics in, Fuel in apart from pump connections.
Neil, did it run on the standard 1.2 temp sensor?? and did it kept it cool???
What pipes did you run?? any pics please fella.
Just got to fit the rad, and the modify the crank pulley. and thats all the workings done.
Over and out to the pub!

yep top pic shows exact same rad fan and cowling i used m8 and at random hammer action!
i swapped the fan switch for the vw one, straight swap
and for the pipes i made some up from random crap just lying around ill get some pics and dig the rad out,god knows where it is!

After some more beer and some drunken ideas
I came up with this idea for the water pipe problem. i have a water pipe which has been modified straight, but it points out to the dip stick. so to get round it, it would require and right angle down then around.
so my idea was this.
block off the pipe to the rad, and use the down part. from this t-piece it off to the rad.
one thought was the flow of the water. but its not going to be restricted as its gonna just be moved 30mm.
it stops a unecessary right angle from the top, and makes a tidier job.
what do ya think???
A:
Not got too many pics today.
The radiator fits into the mounting holes in the bottom. so for future reference the GTE will fit into the mounting holes at the bottom. and top brackets are required.
I have given my mate so sketches for the brackets, nothing to hard to make up. Ive cut the legs off the smaller 1.2L rad, so it sits lower, and thus have a direct air flow to the TB's.
All the fuel lines are in, and connected up. the fuel pump is now conencted to the ECU. carried out a flush of the new copper and rubber fuel lines.
then connected the fuel lines up correctly. no leaks any where.
All eletronic ecu connections done. just the dash sensor wiring to do.
took sumpp off and Cleaned oil pick up. fuel of crap!!! i would suggest that every body does that.
Things to do:
-------------
Crank disc (needs bottom pulley modifing)
Rad pipes (Scrap yard tomorrow)
with that done the car should run. fingers crossed.
Other things to do:
-------------------
Alterantor bracket
General tiding up.
Should be running tomorrow night. im really wishing that it starts up first time.

nice one m8
im getting excited and its not mine!
i got a pic of the ol' mk1 rad today, little late like but what the hell, this is a corsa rad with nova fan and cowling.
fixing points in red,and the leg (blue-circled) needed a hole drilling due to the size of the rad!
neil.
A:
Good luck with it
I really should get off my **** and do something with my bodies, they've been sitting in the garage for over a year now. All you people beating me to it are putting me to shame
A:
Good work chap, me likey muchly
A:
Cheers Riley, Thats the same fan ive got. the rad is about 2inchs smaller in height.
so will give a direct air flow into the bodies. as its smaller it might not cool the engine down. we will see
Just the Rad pipe work today. hopfully my mate is not busy at work, and can make some brackets up.
Im putting the crank disc, on the inside of the bottom pulley. as the sensor mounting bracket ive got seems to fit there.
but the bottom pulley needs to be machined down about 4mm, to make sure the alternator belt is still in line.
with those two items done. i should be able to turn it over. probably will not start
Cheers for all the encouragment, its all helping.
A:
its comming along nicely now what ecu you got jim ?
A:
Sorry if I'm being a 'tard, I've scanned this thread and couldn't see what management unit Jim's running ?
A:
Sorry guys, forgot that piccy.
Its a webber alpha system. the ecu is plumbed in here
its well tidy! you can just see the ecu bottom right.
Leaving the tiding for the last thing, just in case.
any thought on the water plumbing
A:
Looking good Jim, will be mega once you get it running!
Alan
A:
good luck,i cant wait till you try start it!
for the water hoses it dosnt look too bad m8,bottom rad outlet looks like it wants a 90 deg bend coming off into a steel pipe running along to the water pump.
and for the top rad outlet, just a wobbly bit of pipe straight to just under the bodies?
or am i not on the right track there?
neil.
A:
Neil, Thats what ive done. (kept the header flange standard)
Heres the the pics of today, spent most of the day collecting parts.
Beast came round with all sorts of bits that i had ordered. which he made up at his work. the brackets for the rad, where measured up last night with a tape measure, and written down on a fag packet! Beast Enginnering has done well. (DOne tell his boss, weve nicked/Borrowed some parts from the stores)
The Rad with orignal legs on. they have now come off. therefore sits lower.
Beast, doing some minor adjustments to the rad brackets.
Left rad bracket.
Test Fit. Lots of space in there now. You can just see the new alternator bracket. shifting it down, out the way of the back plate.
Some rad piping in shot here.
Look at the pipework on that!
The pipe with the most bends in. (hope it works)
One problem left is the crank disc. the mounting for the crank sensor needed to go on the inside of the bottom pulley. so i (beast) machined off 4mm from the back.
this worked fine, but the crank disc now fouls on the intermediate pulley. back to the drawing board.
Sprayed the rad black with VHT. looks new now!
Just got to fit it all back together tomorrow, and wait for the crank to come back. then start it up! fingers crossed.
A:
great work m8,keep it up,superb to watch
just make sure those jubilee clips are tight on the piece you made up,the piece i made blew apart twice ,could do with the steel pipe knurling on the ends or flaring.
in fact demon tweeks sell the steel pipe with ridges at the ends so the rubber pipe tightens over it properly.
neil.
A:
ITS RUNNING!!!!!!
A:
fantastic!
well done m8!

Right im back from the place i will be visiting alot with these daddies on - the petrol station
Well after lots of fannying around, it was time to start the beast. the fuel pump kicked in, waited a good 10 secs.
Turned the key..........nearly started........second turn............Brummmmmmmm Brummmmmm. pop pop pop
We all cheered!!!!!!!! YEAH!!! even the little boy next door came out and said "glad you got ur car started"
Heres the pics of the day. the engine and wiring needs alot of tiding, but it will get me to the rolling road.
Heres the rad in situ
One washer that fell in the way, and i didnt notice.
Putting the air horns on
Some more head scratching from beast and scotty. (saying nahh that will never work jim!!!)
Just after the car had started!! sex wee wee every where!
Lots of room in there now!
The old injection system. thank you
(might be putting back on if this costs me tooo much!)
-------------------------------------------------------
My mate followed me to the petrol station and, he was laughing his head off when we pulled in.
"youve got flames coming out the exhaust!!!!"
I thought it might be over fueling, because the map thats in it, was for high lift cams, on the old engine.
Well im off to Northampton Motor sport, Rolling road tomorrow. i will let ya know the results then.
(ive got a strange squeeling noise from the engine bay, could it be the cam belt tensioner??? me just changed it.)
A:
brilliant james
brings back memories
how does it run?
and id give things a good checking out as far as the squealing, could be the water pump on its way out!
neil.
A:
Nice one Jim, good luck for the rollers
A:
Excellent I hope mine starts after a couple of cranks.
