Hello. After a whole day at Northampton Motor Sport. (8.30 till 6pm) Had to stay because i didnt have any to drive with me. Had a great time there, and learnt loads!
They are extremly busy at the mo, preping race cars.
11.00 (after they workon the other cars there)
Steve carried out 2 hours setting my car up, with a loud whining noise. Found out later that it was the metal plate between cam belt and engine, just vibrating.
The set up required the throttle linkage, and air flow balancing.
14:00
Troy came out and did the mapping. the alpha plus mapping system is excellent. just plug the ecu in to the lap top and the controller.
Sit the car on load at a set speed, and set throttle postion, hitting the "cross point" on the map. and tuning the ingition and fueling at each point watching the bhp output. this was done ALOT. didnt relise how much time it would take.
After 2.5 hours doing this. then the power runs, the info you are all after.
After the initial run, Troy tried some different ingition and fueiling to get a different peak power, but watching what happens across the whole range.
After some final tweeking, and working out the correct load for the maximum power. the results are
Power at fly wheel - 177.6 Bhp (corrected) @6656
Transmission loss - 30Bhp
Power at the wheels - 142.4 Bhp
Max torque - 154.3lb ft @5389
The torque curve is alot smoother now, and has alot more torque over the whole range.
When troy show me the power run results, i wasnt really impressed. I told troy that i already had 175 at stealths rollers with 152lb ft. on k jet. which i know was a different set of rollers.
But after i paid the bill he said the only true dyno is the seat of your pants dyno.
Which is sooooo true, the extra torque low down is noticable, and it just pulls and pulls to the soft limiter @ 6950 (which is perfect) Hard limiter @ 7100.
Was expecting more, which is why im not 100% happy. but 85% happy. But the sound makes up for it

whats the engine spec jim?
is it a kr 1800? or 9a etc?
was the cooling all good?
neil.
A:

2L KR (bored)
flowed head
4-2-1exhaust
3 angle valves
Throttle bodies
The cooling worked fine. never ever caused a problem. never went above half way.
I got more rev range now, as the old limiter was lower, and really harsh. this ones nice and soft.
little blast home, and i gave it little a tickle, and i was sat in 5th at 6K and still pulling.
just the tiding up now to do.

This was a beast of a car. i was deaf after this was moved.
VWJ1M on the rollers
I cant hear it at the min, no sound on my pc!

Having mine set upby Troy on Thrusday the 9th
He is a nice knowlagble chap....no bullSh*t figures just so you go home happy....
He has to remove my carbs and re-mount as I was unawear they had to be loose on the manifold.....
Jim well done for the work..the photos were great..and good help for me sorting out my radiator problems.

But the sound makes up for it got simular figures when mine was mapped but it does drive a hell of alot better, not really had time to get it back for another session but am working on it,change of cams and a homemade inlet manifold and fuel pump, its been sat in the garage for 12 months while I fix everbody else`s cars should be back out end of the month with a bit of luck

sounds wicked m8
neil.

Cheers for all the support throughout.
Drove it today, and it felt alot better. but needs to go back to map the ecu for cold starts. (it feels like its never ending)
Will tidy up some of the wiring, and make it look presentable for Stoner Park. Will put some more pick up then.

A:

how hard was the ecu to wire up
A:

The ecu was easy peeeeeeasy
+12v
0V
12v Switched - From Coil
Rev counter - Coil
Then then other wired connected to the injectors, coil pack, isv, crank sensor, water temp.
Fuel pump.
All these where fine, and didnt take too long to connect up.

You can't compare the two different rollers Jim, as you well know, as long as it's more responsive with the ITBs, that's all that matters. You've gained something.
It doesn't 'seem' though like for like, that ITBs actually gain peak power over K-Jet with the same basic engine configuration.
Vids just dl'd - sounds good!

Great job mate.
Sounds fantastic.
Must be so temping just to open the windows and go for a blast down the lanes in the middle of the night
I have just got all the bits to do my build, and I am just as excited as you were at the start of your thread.
I take it, it has been a tough job to do yourself?
I see Northampton Motor Sport had some kit cars in the yard, do you know if they have any experiance with megasquirt ecus?
Or do you have there contact details?
Did the short air horns restric the build at all?
I am also limitted to space so have gone for smaller ones also.
Quick word on the RR issue.
We had a Club day at Stelth, and everyone was well over.
My 1.0 had been badley every after the fire, I had cheap Tesco fuel in, but somehow I ended up with 6bhp over the 50hp the car should have.
A standard Loop GTi nearly had 140hp.
My two favourate pics :D

Well done chap - i betchya thats a blast to drive

Can you tell me the price and place to get trumpets?
Yep -
The guy there is really helpfull and good prices also.
Isnt such a short trumpet a bit detrimental to power/torque..??
As mentioned above its all dependant on engine, and the work been carried out.
A very good explantion is described here -
In the scheme of things it will have little effect. The major itme i was loking for was the a small length as to fit in the space in the mk1.
Hi All,
After a Major site revamp I have now updated the URL for the trumpets article...it can be found at ( ) I have also added more articles which may be of interest.
Please feel free to check out the site & join our community- you will be made very welcome.
