A&Q about 350Z
Q:
16v golf gti 1989....been running fine , today i went out and after 1 mile i felt a sudden loss of power for a second and then it was back to normal, as i got further it got to be a random bad misfire/80% power loss. the car didnt stall and would idle normaly, the fault was worse the bigger the load you put on the car
while it was doing this the rev counter kept falling to 0 and generaly going mad...im not too clued up on ign related problems but does that point to a hall sender/coil prob?
fwiw i yanked on the dist connector and checked the ecu pulg...all appeared fine
A:
probably the hall sender. had it happen on both my 16v's. backfires splutters misfires & rev-counter bounces all over the place
and sounds like exactly whats happening on yours
can replace the hall sender for about £10, or just buy a new dizzy for about £90!
A:
where can i get the hall sender kit? £10 sounds more like it
and has anyone tried the ebay £50 ish dizzys that are often on there
A:
I bought one of the £50 dizzys in 2004 to fix a leaking one on my at the time ABFd Mk2. Worked fine, but a couple of months later it leaked again. I just didnt want to pay the premium of a genuine one.
A:
last time i got mine outta EuroCarParts. they dont stock them but will special order them in for you, if you ask kindly!

I used the hall sender from a 8v digi dizzy for mine. Heat and oil causes the black and white wires of the 3 to short and stop the sensor from working.
A:
They can also get chewed up inside if there is play in the dizzy shaft........ My first suspect would be as said, then possibly the coil. I assume all your HT leads are in good nick?
A:
If you're looking at a new dizzy, I think I remember GregS getting one straight from VW, and it being cheaper than GSF etc, and came with a new cap etc.......
A:
Just checked and ETOS has them (latest price update) for £80 plus the dreaded, complete, with a new cap and rotor arm. GSF want £70 plus the dreaded for a bare one.
A:
tsc does your price thing show trade prices??
cheers
A:
Nope, just the standard price....... so you'llbe able to knock a bit off that as well!
