on the side of the head there is a black flange with a pipe running to it. is the description this that i found in gsf?

Sure it is if you gave them the correct details of your engine.
mine came with an O ring but check...
which reminds me that ive still not changed mine thats leaking... (its in the glove box)

Probably, but there are two as you probably know. Strictly speaking, the one on the right as you look at the engine is on the 'rear' of the engine (naming convention is based on an in-line mounted engine.)
Anyway, suggest you ring them to check, but the one on the RHS of the head as you look at the engine bay from the front of the car will be the cheaper of the two, if there are two listed.
I've bought a couple of those from GSF and always got the O-ring with it.

Thats the one on the front, not the side. Worth changing anyway because if the side one has gone, the front probably has or will soon! The side one is this one:
