A&Q about 350Z
Q:
whats involved? is it literally just a case of shaving weight off a standard flywheel? are there any disadvantages? and where could i get one done? just an engineering place?
forgive my amateurlinessinglyness...
A:
Hotgolf is your man.
A:
yep hotgolf Here's the 02A one he did for me.
A:
isnt he in wales? and would this not cost a fortune in postage + work + more postage, couldnt my friendly local engineer do the job?
how much does hotgolf charge?
A:
contact him on here. He pays postage one way (iirc) and it cost me about 11 quid to send my old one back to him.
A:
wherabouts are you based? if you`re anywhere near bedfordshire theres a place called T&L Engineering near bedford, they are used by the drag-racing boys at santa pod and their workmanship is second to none. prices aren`t too bad either..
A:
dare say anyone with a lathe could lighten a flywheel, but remove metal from the wrong place and potentially dangerous and remove too much and it could affect tickover or pulling away.
A:
torque can be effected with lightening a flywheel.
less mass to keep everything rotating but then pickup will be greatly improved by having less mass to turn... for a road car you need a happy medium.
Sure hotgolf has enough experience to know how much to take off though.
A:
He did tell me that to do it properly he could match up the friction plate to the new lightened flywheel also.
A:
I am also looking into the lightened flywheel route as the car is going into Stealth for a new clutch, so i want to get one sourced before the 5th so it can be changed at the same time. Would be interested to hear more views on the pros and cons and the best places to source one from. Also cost would be useful! thanks.
A:
I think I paid about 60-65 quid inc delivery and balancing

Seems quite reasonable actually. Am i likely to loose loads of torque ?? im never going to be using the car on a track, just want it to rev more freely as it can be a bit sluggish lower down the revs.
A:
when I converted my car to an 02A gearbox I never fitted a standard flywheel so I can't compare the two, but It drives fine and have never had a problem with the car stalling or running funny.

Take that lovely engine and put it in a Mk2 It'll never feel sluggish again.
With a lightened flywheel you'll just have to give it a few more revs to get it off the line, due to the reduced mass in the engine.
