You do realise that although people will see this, read all the threads.
They will still be STUPID COONTS and ask all the questions again, because they think they are so special
A:

More than likely

Block is 16mm taller (236mm vs. 220mm)
Different cams
Narrower intake ports on ABF/9A than KR/PL
Better exhaust ports on ABF/9A than KR/PL
ABF uses 35mm long valve guides, KR/PL uses 38mm
ABF uses different inlet and exhaust valves (95,5mm and 97,95mm long) than KR/PL (95,5mm and 98,2 mm long)

I might be wrong, but I reckon you may find it by clicking that little search button at the top and typing 'ABF'. Just a thought

I didn't actually read all the threads If anyone wants to add any 6A into mk2 conversion details from other threads, please do.
Anything else we want to see in here?
A:

excelent info
i'm currently doing a conversion using audi 2l 16v. I think it's one of the later engines, code ACE rather than 6a. As with others doing this conversion, i have a problem with the oil filter housing being at an angle. I have read the following thread -

It mentions that on the later engines "there's a subtle difference after about 1994, in that the oil filter mounting bracket contains a valve and the blocks that match it have an extra oil galley to feed it, this shifts the left upper mounting point to a new position."
Does anyone know if the 9a oil filter housing will match this block with the extra oil galley?
This is the only thing holding me back, everything else has fitted fine. thanks
A:

That's bloody brilliant! well done!
Will be usefull when i fit my 6a with 45's this weekend

Alan, I was a bit concerned about the filter issue, I posted a thread a few days back and this was posted by Martyn;
The mounting pattern for the oil filter bracket/crankcase breathers does change around 1991-ish. If you look at the bolt pattern on the oil filter bracket, the top bolt is shifted over to one side on the later ones compared to an early bracket. The good news is that the bracket is pretty much universal across all the 1.6-2.0 engines from 90-96, mine came off a 8v passat, so they're not hard to come across in the scrappy.

I did'nt realise that the blocks were actually different looking at the ETKA this afternoon I noticed that the code for the block fitted in the Coupe (053 103 101H) is the same for both the 6a Engine and later ACE, However the block for 6A in the Audi 80 is 053 103 101E I only quickly glanced so I'll have another look if I get chance later.

Just had a quick look again at the ETKA, going from the Coupe the ACE and 6A blocks are the same, also the bare filter brackets appear to be the same (053 115 405F) for both engines, it’s the Breather assembly which is different 6A( 027 103 772A) ACE (048 103 772C) It’s all very confusing!

A:

Thanks for that Peter:)
My engine is out of a 92 audi coupe. Its the one with the top bolt moved further to the side that i need. The problem is that i live on an island with no scrappy so if i do send for one i cant see it first I think i might know where there are a couple of wrecked passats so i'll try and check them. I dont know if theyr 8vs or 16vs yet.
A:

No worries Alan hopefully the Passat assembly or a similar VAG should work I hope so I’m in big trouble if it doesn’t, mine is from a 95 coupe with the angled set up. All being well I should be sourcing one myself towards the middle of Feb if you haven’t found one by then let me know and I’ll see if I can get two and send you one up. Out of interest I may ring the dealer for a cost new sometimes the prices can be surprisingly cheap, if I do I’ll post it up here
