I have both a 2e and an AGG both with similar miles and in similar condition, which one will be best?
The 2e has the oil squirters does that make any difference? i know that they are basically the same.
Any one got any ideas?

Is the 2E like a 2.0 version of the Mk1/2 1.8 block? meaning that it will take a MK1/2 Gti head?

Yes, they will both take the heads no problem
they are both 2.0 blocks that will be wearing a PB BVH eventually!

2E is a slightly easier conversion, as it doesn't have a hole for the crank sensor, and the dizzy is the right one for the conversion.
Overall though, I'd go with the one with the least signs of wear on bearings or bores.
I don't know if it's due to the oil squirters or not, but you do hear of lots of 2E engines lasting till round the 200k mark... might just be because they were in passats and driven sedately as a result.

I may use the crank sensor hole to let oil return from a catch tank. do the oil jets make that much difference tho to performance?
