A&Q about 350Z
Q:
I have a really annoying problem with my '82 GTI.
Basically it won't turn over when when hot. It will bump start with very little effort, and there appears to be a current drain when I turn the ignition (interior light dims). I have no problems starting from cold, and it runs fine.
I have changed the starter motor, and battery, discovering in the process that the gearbox was only attached to the engine by the starter bolts(!!!) and thought this was the problem. I replaced the missing bolts but still no joy. I have cleaned up all the connections to the starter, & replaced the bush.
I don't know what to try next...... any ideas anyone??

there is a bush in the engine block that the starter motor engages in when you turn the key, if its been hanging off the starter bolts I'd guess this is all chewed up!

I think he's already changed that bush, from his post. Might be worth checking to see that it's still seated right, or giving it a little smear of grease.
Did you change the starter for a new one, or another older one? Did you clean up the battery end of the contacts too? Also clean up the earthing straps from engine to body.

Hi
How old is the ignition switch ?
A:
I have changed the bush already, seems to be seating fine. Just called the AA, the very nice man said that the starter is drawing something like 267 amps, but should be drawing only 100 on a warm start up, sugested the bearing(!!) or the starter itself. come to think of it, I don't think I greased the bearing, so I'm going to try that and if not exchange the starter again.
Thanks for your suggestions, will let you know what happens.
