A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hi everyone. I've got a mk 2 GTI with a 20v turbo in it. My heater matrix gave up the ghost so came around to changing it. I used the FAQ guide on here and changed it ok. Bit of a sh*t to do mind!!
After finishing it i started the engine and put blowers on hot with the cap off. I got no hot air so swapped the pipes around going into the bulkhead to see if that made a difference. It did but the air wasn't particulary hot and engine was up to operating temp. I kept an eye on the water level and kept topping up as neccessary with the cap off. Then the air started to cool down from the vents. Any ideas guys cause i'm stumped and dunno what to do next. Any help appreciated. Regards Sean

Did you bin the bypass valves too? If not get rid and either bridge the pipes with copper piping or do it properly and buy new hoses from GSF, at about £10 each. The hose from the side of the head goes to the matrix connection closet to the passenger side of the car
If all that checks out it sounds like you have an air lock. Run the engine from cold with the cap off, and squeeze all the pipes you can lay your hands on. Every now & again rev the engine to 2k to really get to the coolant flowing.
Keep the level topped up, then turn the car off once the coolant starts to boil out of the header tank, or the pipes get too hot to touch.
This usally does the trick for me, but sometimes it takes a damn good thrashing (down the motorway) to get the heters back

Sorry I didn't reply sooner rubjonny but been away for the weekend. I took your advice about bleeding it with the cap off and took it for a good thrash as well. Heaters are great now and its a good job cause its getting bloody cold in the mornings without it!!! The bypass pipes were already gone after the engine conversion was done so no need to worry about them as i've heard they can be a pain in the ar$e. Thanks again. Sean
