weber 48's on 2.0 16v?

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

like the title says, can you run a 2.0 16v 9a engine on weber 48 carbs?? and if so could you fit smaller venturies so it didn't do 2 miles per gallon.

mr hillclimber is the webber man on these forums imo, he should be along shortly to let you know

i am in the same boat with my abf mk2 i've been told by a weber man not to use 48's as it won't run them 45's are the way to go with 38mm chokes thats what i've been told plus he said buy new ones as second hand are a minefield

I'm no expert but I have been looking into it recently. Basically the ultimate power determines the size of chokes which determine the carbs. I'm building a 9a and am looking for around 200bhp (I may be being a little optimistic!), that means I need 45s with 38mm chokes. I read that you should ideally have 7mm smaller chokes (38s on 45s) so you'd be looking at 41mm chokes which are for roughly 230bhp. I'll try to find the site I was reading.

i'm trying to fit the monotronic injection that was original to the 9a but the wiring's a pain, so carbs are a simpler way to go plus i had carbs fitted to the 8v so have the fuel system already in place with the air/fuel meter and pressure regulator. but finding 45's at a good price is near impossible, best i find is 700 euro excluding manifold, but there is a set of 45's which i guess are too big.......

... Oh I dunno about that...
Anyway, yes 48's can be used but would be way over what you'll need. If you figure on a choke size of around 75% of the butterfly size as being the smallest realistic size you'd be looking at a choke size of 36mm (75% of 48 is 36), which is big enough to feed air to an engine of around 180hp. If it's a standard 2ltr 16v with the carbs and no doubt an exhaust change then power is more likely to be around 165-ish hp, something like a 35mm choke in a 45 Weber would be fine for that.

As above.... Though 38mm choke's would only be needed on an engine of around 190-200hp. Minimum choke size in a 45 would be around 34mm up to a max of 39mm, if an engine needs smaller than a 34mm choke use a pair of 40 Webers, bigger than 39's and you'll need a pair or 48's.
New are certainly better, but at a price !
If yr careful you can get a good pair of carbs at a fair price, but buy from a reputable source, the classifieds in Motorsport news can be good. But be quick, even second hand ones sell fast !

Go for whatever you can get to start with (if they're good one's), you can always either swap a pair of 48's for some 45's (some people "must" have the bigger carb's !) when they come along or upgrade the engine for more power !

For yr 200hp either 45's or 48's with 38 or 39mm chokes (depending on the build/spec/set-up) will be fine.

what choke size would i need for mine he just said 38mm as idea also what power do you think out of this spec engine 2.016v abf newman 272's or 288's, p+p head, 4 branch, megajolt and maybe lightened and balanced with 45's
A:

it would be a lot easier just to ask you to wire in the motronic

if i could wire in the monotronic i would but can't find the information for the wiring for the ecu , not yet anyway

With a good build it should be in the 190-200hp ball park easy, so yeah, 38mm chokes would be a good starting point.
