A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hello
I have a 1990 Mkii GTI 8v. my alternator needs adjusting as the belt is slipping, but I can not seem to move the thing, I have loosened the bolt nearest the engine and the other bolt on the arm (it has a rack which some teeth fit into), but I don't seem to be able to move the alternator at all, I have tried using a piece of wood to get some leverage, but, I just end up snapping that, am I just being stupid, should I undo some other bolt?
Many Thanks
Jack

I think that you need to loosen the pivot bolt which is a real b***er to reach through a hole in the cambelt cover, if I remember correctly it's an allen key headed jobby & is bloody tight!

Thanks, I did notice the hole in the cambelt cover, but didn't realise it was an allen key, that may explain why no socket would fit, I'll give that a go.

You'll probably need an allen headed socket, i couldn't shift mine using an ordinary allen key cos it bent too much!

I believe it is a 6mm allen key you need, as above you will struggle with a normal allen key so its best to get one on a socket that you can use on a ratchet, just double check the size of it 1st as you dont want to round it out
