Hi,
Bit of a novice with all this so apologies if ive posted this in the wrong place!
Right, ive got 1990 8v gti and the heater hasnt worked for a while now, obvioulsy its getting annoying now as the weather turns etc.
I did a bit o research on these very fine forums and came to the conclusions my matrix bypass valves were knackered. I removed the old valves and ran the hose thru the matrix both ways and clean water came out of the other pipe. Got new valves from GSF and fitted them this avo and...same result! B*gger all heat on any setting. I ran the car from cold with the expansion cap off and squeezed any pipes i could get til they got too hot to touch and a bit of air came out but not much. Turned the car off and went for a drive half hour later but still no heat. I can hear the flap moving when i slide the temp slider so dont think its that. Help! Any other things to try would be much appreciated!

so both the heater matrix pipes got hot yeah? maybe try it with 2 copper pipes to bypass the valve

Yeah, both pipes hot, both sides of the valves.
So you think maybe the new valves are knackered too?

maybe? is there a chance you could have fitted em wrong?
if hot water is going through it , it means the matrix is okay id say

Every chance id have said! Lol bit of a muppet with cars.
Fitted the silver one to the right hand pipe (as you look at it from front of car) with the arrow going towards the bulkhead. Fitted the black one to the left hand pipe with the arrow going away from the bulkhead. Does that sound right?
Also, when im driving along and have got the blowers directed at the windscreen, with cold air coming out, i can feel warm air coming through the centre vents, guess this is just being pushed thru as im moving?
Glad the marix sounds ok, that looks like a swine of a job!
