vented discs

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

hi i've not long had my first mk2 golf very long and would like to improve the braking on it. It is a 1989 1.6 driver with g60 kit on it and 16" allys. looks quite smart and i like it. The lad i bought it off told me that i can put the 1.8 vented discs and pads on it without changing the calipers etc. i have been looking on ebay at the corrado 280mm set up but think it may be a bit over the top for what i want. Any help would be much appreciated as this is my first vw and not had much experience with them.
cheers guys and girls

i think the fella might be right.....239mm vented discs n pads bolt right on
A:

vented discs in themselves will not improve the braking. its the size of disc plus calipers and master cylinder that do this. vented discs only come into thier own if your brakes are overheating.
A:

so is there a slightly bigger size disc i can go up to instead of the 280mm. and what car is it on? or would it be worth investing in the ebc route
A:

you can indeed fit GTI vented 239 discs and pads, but you need to replace them as a complete set because the driver pads are thicker to compensate for the thinner solid disc.
Any other brake upgrade will require you to replace the hubs, calipers & carriers. IMO, not worth the effort on a Driver, the 8v GTI setup will be more than enough
A:

go for 280s, they are faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic, but you need the swivel hubs and master cylinder too
A:

so are the corrado hubs the same splines as the normal golf drive shafts or would the end cups need changing?
A:

If they're 4 stud they'll go straight on. If its 5 stud they still will, but you wont be able to fit your wheels on
A:

o right ok chaps. sounds like you lot deffinately know what your on about.
cheers for the help youve been most helpfull. thanks again
