on my 1988 mk2 gti instead of having the normal side repeating indicators it has gti badges :S
they look really really nice but ive never seen them befor?!?!?!
does anyone else have anything like this? and will it pass the MOT like it as i cant see any wiring for indicators behind!

They were fitted to really early mk2 GTI'S,so it sounds like someone has retro fitted these at some point as an 88spec car shouldn't have them. if side repeaters are factory fitted for that year I think they should be replaced to pass mot then badges put back on if you really want?

I have seen two different types one says GTI and the other is the wolfsburg crest,do an ebay search as this where I seen them

the thing is i think they have been on there for a while, wondering how its got thro previous mots??
cant really be arsed to buy some side repeaters and try to find the wiring for them!!hahaha.

Here is a pic from my 86 16v which they were fitted to from factory.Swiss import if that makes any difference.

the really big ones (above) came on the 1st mk2s, the slightly smaller ones were 86-87 then they had side repeaters after that...
it'll fail an mot with them on an 88 car... if they pick up on it...
the wiring for them will be inside your wing... its real pain to get it back...

If its a swiss import you might get away with it, or they might just turn a blind eye. Good news is the wiring should be there under the scuttle for indicators, so its just a case of picking up some lenses and plugging the loom in for every MOT

Nope post 86 all vehicles MUST have side indicators. This doesn't mean all MOT places test for it though, but be aware if you don't have them, they may not (and should not!) pass it.

My old early 85 gti had them. the cars long gone but the badges are sitting in my shed
