A&Q about 350Z
Q:
HI recently my airbag light came on so took it down to the dealer and they said it has a sparadic fault on the drivers airbag saying that the resistance is too low.
Anyway they cleared the code and told me to monitor it. After about half an hour the fault was re-recorded and the light came on again.
Now vw smith knight faye say it will cost £420 + vat + fitting of a new airbag and module
Any body had any problems with their airbag
A:
New airbag and module i think not!
I had the same problem on my Mk3 it turned out to be the slip ring behind the wheel. I replaced that myself and then reset the warning light with VAG-COM and job done, fixed!
Slip rings can't be repaired either, mine was 100€ new so should be about 60quid. Try and find some one else with a Mk4 and someone with a registered copy of VAG-COM or similar and if you feel comfortable with a spanner and explosive devices you could check your slip ring to see if thats at fault, also a Haynes manual would be a bit useful.

i have changed a few of the drivers airbags on mk4's, not a common fault granted. if you have the printout from the dealership, post me the fault code and description and i will tell you whether its the igniter ring or the airbag itself.
if it is the igniter ring you may as well buy it from a vw dealer and either fit it yourself or get someone else to do it. because labour rates at vw are extortionate, trust me i work at a vw main dealer. unfortunately if it is the airbag itself i dont think it can be supplierd to you as it is an 'explosive device'
if you do give it a go yourself, be careful and disconnect the battery before removing any airbag device
hope that helps
A:
usually the igniter ring clicks when you turn the steernig wheel if its faulty

Thanks For Your Reply, Dont Have The Fault Code Number, Just A Report With No Fault Code Will Phone Vw Up Tommorrow And Find Out The Code, Hopefully They'll Still Have The Job Sheet. Cheers
A:
code is 00588
A:
also have another code 18010
A:
Why not to disable it ? Or maybe buy an airbag resetter for an Mk4 Golf..
A:
^^^or get it fixed so it works correctly
