Which bits to use from Mk3 Vento fo MK2 Golf

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Hi Guys,
As the title suggests I have an 89 8v GTI and just accquired a 93 Vento 2l GL.
The Vento is in good shape with 100k on it and FSH my Golf has 170k still going well though.
My thoughts are I am going to use the 2e block and dizzy with my MK2 gearbox and clutch(new), use the rear calipers and discs as they are excellent.
Can I use the power steering from the Vento in my MK2? Also what other goodies would be worth using?
Can I use my GTI 8v oil pump as its new?
Can i use the waterpump, alternator or any other ancillaries from the Vento.
Also I will have a load of spare parts for free plus post if anyones interested before I scrap the vento (it has 8 month mot), head, isv, gearbox (very tight), panels, trim, leccy windows, cl, em, leccy sunroof etc etc.
Set of 15" TSW hocks on it cheap.
Also will have a 6 month old recon manual rack from my 8v if I use the P/S from the Vento.
Sorry for the long post but I dont want to chuck things and find they would be useful later, but Im not going strip stuff off thats uselees to me as I don't have much space.
Also on a different note does anyone have the part no for the rear bolts that go through the wishbone into the body?
Thanks all
Bill

I don't know what of bits you mentioned from the vento would fit the golf, so im not much use to you there im afraid! What's the bodywork like on the Vento - rust/dents/colour code? Might be interested in a few bits...
Cheers

Hi
Not sure on the code as I dont have the V5 to hand but its the Burgundy Metallic variety it has a nice rear spoiler on the boot (factory) which you dont see too often.
Not really a Mk3 Golf or Vento man meself, MK1/2 Golfs really so unsure of the parts worthy of keeping.
The car is in very good shape, no rust, good doors, interior is mint, wings, bonnet mint but lacquer scratches, to be honest for most peeps its good car but I'm not a Vento fan and bought it for parts really as they dont get ragged engine wise, a bit like a Passat.
I'm not sure but would this have 280mm brakes on the front?
I want every piece that is worth my while for spares orto pass on and anything anyone wants of use can have it plus postage plus a bit of time getting it off.
I hate scrapping cars and this doesnt deserve it really but I want the block and rear calipers etc, so its the big scapyard in the sky for this four wheeled coffin.
BTW if anyone wants a fully working MK3 dash in mint conditon come take it away.
Oh maybe of interest it has the Climatronic heating rather than standard hot air blower..

Use the complete bottom end, including all the brackets, anxileries & dizzy. Also use your old gearbox if its in good nick, with a brand new clutch kit, with your old flywheel. Don't forget to change the input shaft seal, and the pushrod bush & seal. Fill it with Redline MTL gearbox oil as well
You can use the Vento gearbox if its a rod change if you like, worth checking the gearbox code and looking up the ratios 1st mind. Same as above, but a MK3 box will require a MK2 16v clutch kit & input shaft seal as they have the larger input shaft seal like the MK2 16v 2y box, you still use your old flywheel though. (MK3 flywheel is a little heavier, and it has dowls in different places so it wont fit MK2 clutch kits IIRC)
For the PAS setup you cant use the rack, and maybe not the pipes either! You might be able to use the rack if you swap MK2 track rods on, but even then the rack->column UJ is different so you have to mess with fitting the mk3 inner column etc.
If you go for a MK2 PAS kit, you need the complete MK2 kit (including MK2 PAS UJ & rack rubber mount), apart from the pump. You have to use the MK3 pump if you use the MK3 anxilery brackets, MK2 pump pulley offset is wrong!
The Vento rear brakes will go straight on, and ideally fit the fronts too, they'll be at least 256, maybe 280s like you say. Hard part is getting the driveshaft bolt off, once you've done that they'll fit straight on the Golf no bother. One thing tho, if they are 5 stud you'll need to get the 5 stud hub pressed out, and get a pair of 4 stud hubs pressed in with new bearings.
The MK2 oil pump wont be any good though!
If you're feeling brave fit the MK3 rocker cover on, this requires a bit of thought on how to plumb in the breather system! Oh and if you go with the MK3 anxileries setup, you'll need a new MK3 front coolant flange, as the hose setup is different. Along with that, you'll need the MK3 small header tank hose (it connects to the front flange) and you'll have to block off the old feed on the rad, I did this by chopping the hose, threading a bolt in and clamping it with a small jubilee. The MK3 front flange also has spark plug lead clips, which helps neaten up the bay
Check it out, notice dodgy breather routing, the best I could do with what I had at the time :
