A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Hi,
I'm looking to buy some axel stands and a trolley jack - will probably go for the halfords ones as they're about £30 and look pretty good - decided against ramps.
Now I've never used stands before so I was hoping someone could tell me the best place to have them when working on the car both at the front and at the rear?
Also where are the best places to use the trolley jack itself?
Any help will be much appreciated!
Cheers,
Mark

The correct location to lift the car with a trolley jack at the front is the round 'knobly' bit sticking out of the floorpan just behind the front wheel. To support it with an axle stand I try to use the subframe near/on the mounting bolt area, or if I need to work in that area the sill lip. You need a bit of wood between the body & stands though, especially if you use the sill. Ideally you want a nice shape that fits around the lip along the sill, otherwise you can bend it if you arn't carefull.
At the rear you can jack up & support the car at the flat area of the floorpan just in front of the rear wheel, near the beam mounting bolts. Be carefull as the driver side is close to the fuel lines, and the passenger side is close to the brake lines. Also on both sides the handbrake cable runs close to this area as well.
