Hi Guys,
My mk2 16v has a sunroof leak - but it doesn't leak EVERY time it rains....it's weird....
The problem usually manifests itself as a drip on the passenger seat coming from the inside lining of the sunroof.
I am quite sure that the drainage holes are not blocked, but i have noticed that the thin seal that runs round the edge of the sunroof has a cut/join in on the driver's side it that is about 3mm wide. Could that be causing it, and how easy is it to replace it?
Thanks!

Just solved the very same problem on the other halfs mk2. The passenger side rear drain pipe was blocked. A quick blast from the compresser and it's all sorted. We had funny gurgling noises coming from the roof when pulling away.

Oh - REAR drainage channels as well as front ones....
I had never noticed rearward ones, but then again, if the car is parked uphill, I suppose it is a bit much to expect water to flow uphill!
Does the little gap in the seal mean a problem or are they supposed to be like that?
Thanks!
A:
No that gap shouldn't be a problem at all. What I did to find the problem was, open the sunroof on level ground and pour a little water in each corner of thedrainage channels and see if the water flows away onto the ground. You should see water on the ground by each wheel if the pipes are working ok.

Excellent - thanks!
Though to test the drainage holes as you say does presuppose that it bloody well stops raining!!!

I tried to have a look at this - I can spot the front drainage holes no prob, but how do I access the rear ones? I cannot see them even with the sunroof fully open?
Do I need an air blowgun with a really long nozzle to reach it?
Thanks.

I couldn't quite see the rear drainage channels from inside the car with the roof open, so what I did was remove the rear big bumper.
Once the bumpers off you can see a length of white pipe protruding at both rear corners of the body. I ran a length of flexible wire (like a bike brake cable or mig torch liner) up both sides (they were caked in dirt). Then try running some hot water down both channels of the sunroof to be sure they're completely clean

WHAT i DID WAS TO REMOVE THE BACK PART OF THE HEADLINING TO GET TO THE TOP OF THE TUBES AND BLOW THEM OUT. ARE YOU SURE THE BACK ONES ARE BLOCKED?
