whats the difference between HID or xenon

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

whats the difference between HID or xenon
A:

High Intensity Discharge (HID) is a type of lighting technology that replaces the filament of the light bulb with Xenon gas. The gas is ignited to produce an arc of light when high voltage is applied. The amount of light output is three times that of a standard halogen bulb. The lamps also glow at a higher light temperature (closer to natural sunlight) which produces its distinct color and appearance.
Other companies produce halogen filament bulbs that are gas-filled. They still consume the same power, as they are halogen technology, yet the gas gives the bulb a bluer color when lit and an increase in life. Xenon-filled halogen bulbs produce little or no more light output than standard halogen bulbs of the same wattage yet produce a minimal output in comparison with an HID light.

well that sums that up. thanks

I used to like them but now hate them after the amount of cars that seem to blind me with them?

Same here Mike, although some if the hatred may be attributed to jealosy!!
Think I may be purchasing an uprated loom soon.
A:

i use an uprated loom & have a great vision but just use uprated bulbs that don't seem to blind/sparkle like those others.

Just might do that Bundles, seen the wiring diagram before somewhere.
Plus my mate works in Maplin so I could prob get the materials for £5

Oh not just me then. 4x4s are a real pain as their headlamps are at our head height. I got blinded the other night by one that I'd have sworn was on mainbeam...until he put mainbeam on as I didn't dip mine (cr*p std Golf lights). I could still see the results on my retinas minutes later.
They're only legal due to a quirk in the law, which judges light power in watts, which is a tin pot way of doing things - so you can't have 100 watt halogen bulbs but can have 55 watt HID units even though the HID unit produces a lot more lumens (the measurement of light output) some sellers claim 300% more light! (and claim better safety - ha ha) No wonder were getting flipping blinded.
Really the law needs changing to measure lumens - the wattage thing came in with Quartz-Iodine sealed beam units in the '60s. Sadly only string of fatal accidents may change things.
