been offered some BMW alloys but not sure if they will go on.

BMW alloys won't fit straight on, although you can get adaptors to make them fit. Audi A3/TT alloys will fit straight on, as will Mk4 Golf alloys. H&R do adaptors to fit BMW alloys. This website may help.
