A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Any ideas, as usual I fouind reverse and 1st, although 5th was missing, so I nosed it out of the garage so the exhaust wasn;t echo'ing, and sods law, with the nose to a bush I couldn't find reverse.
Do I find neutral, disconnect the pinch bolt from the shaft, fit the tool, then just re-do up the pinch bolt? Or is there more to it than that?
Cheers,
Stu
A:
Yep that's it - as long as the bushes are all in good nick. Any play in the selector shaft bush and your gear selection will be terrible. If it was good before, it's unlikely that the pinch bolt etc have come loose and moved - more likely the bushes.
Have a look down the back of the engine whilst someone wiggles the gearstick and puts it into and out of all the gears. You'll see where it comes through the bushing and if there's any play.
Hope this helps.

Check the ball housing under the car too, lift the gearknob upwards and if there is any play, its worn and needs replacing.
