I have a 1998 Mk4 TDi in need of a new gearbox can anyone tell me if i can just fit a gearbox from any other Mk4 Golf like say a GTi? Thanks..

ideally you need one from a diesel as the ratios will be different between petrol and diesel gearboxes

i would have thought the 6speed box was just the job.
dunno if it bolts straight on tho...

Wouldnt mind a 6 speed box but wouldnt you need to alter the gearlever bit to be able to select 6th gear??

you would need to change the gate and all the gubbins.
Think all 6speeds boxes are cable.
