Gearbox internal shift mech. jammed

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

Help required if anyone has any experience with these gearboxes..
Gearbox will only shift into reverse, cannot select any forward gears. Took the linkages off the gearbox and the 'handle' which should move left/right, in/out will only move in and right which is reverse gear. Something inside the gearbox must have come adrift.
I phoned up a gearbox specialist and they said to remove the bolt at the top of the round gearbox shifter casing (22mm ish). Has anyone done this before? Said that bits may end up in the gearbox, just after any hints before I go ahead.
Cheers.

They mean the 27mm selector cover. Go to , I have a page for the 5th Swap, it covers the removal of the selector assembly in detail on the 5th Swap page.
Don't be surprised however if the selector is stuck in there, because it has to be in neutral to get the selector out. If the tab on the selector which engages the forks inside has moved or bent, it could make getting the selector out a bit tricky.
VW calls for the selector to be driven out, which means shearing the roll pin that secures the tab on the selector that engages the forks.....it would be quite a bit of force needed.

Thanks, managed to get the selector out and the tap looks badly worn. Going to hopefully get hold of a second hand selector to try tonight.
