Ticking noise

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I just purchased a 1985 GTI 8v and the car is great. Everything shifts fine but I get a ticking noise from the front drivers side. When the car heats up it gets louder. The ticking gets faster and slower depending on road speed. Pushing in the clutch or taking the car in or out of gear does not matter. It does not make the noise when your foot is on the gas though. It only makes it when you take your foot off of the gas no matter if it is in or out of gear. The inner passenger boot was torn so I thought for sure that was it but I changed both shafts and it made no change. I checked the fluid and it is fine but I thought about trying to change it to see if that made a difference. Since the gearbox and transmission share the same fluid what should I use. I am considering Redline MT90 but I like what Amsoil has to say. Any suggestions on fluid? After reading for hours I am still confused. Could it be a wheel bearing, Gearbox...
Thanks for any help
This is my first time posting so I hope I am in the correct place.

How loud is the ticking, I'm not taking the micky but you get a road speed ralated tick when the speedo head is failing.

As for the gearbox oil I'd recommend Redline MTL over MT90, I've tried both and the 90 is a bit heavy, giving notchy gear chnages when cold.

It gets louder as you drive the car and it heats up. It gets quite loud and it is definitely coming from outside of the car.

Might be the outter cv joint.

check the dust shield on the rear of the gearbox bellhousing, its located just behind the engine block, above the driver side driveshaft. I had a ticking noise shortly after I did my 2.0 build that drove me crazy till I found the cover had fallen off and was slowly grinding away on the driveshaft!!

Have already changed all cv joints.
checked the dust shield and it is not rubbing but that was a good thought.
Drove the car for a while last night. It was the first night that was fairly cold here in
New Orleans. The car did not seem to make the noise nearly as bad. Because of this I am thinking maybe a thicker manual transmission oil would help. The noise sounds like something clicking from under the car only when the transmission is not under pressure in a forward gear. Not sure about reverse. Sounds like a gear or something in the gearbox that only does it shen there is no forward pressure but it does it in all gears.
Thanks for any help
