Gearshift repair bodge.

A&Q about 350Z
Q:

I've had the gear linkage bushes done a couple of weeks back but there was still grinding and forward to back play in the gearlever.
After having a good inspection it appears the big bush that covers the nylon notched ball on the relay shaft has completely disappeared causing the problem.

I'm going to try a bodge with a suitable sized socket piece with some chemical metal inside to hold it in place over the ball.
Will have to wait and see if it works.
PS Is it best to leave the car in gear when dismantling the linkage to get at the shaft or put it in nuetral?
EDIT: Just noticed the other post about this... whats the chances of that....lol

Weird eh
I'm not beyond taking it back as it's easy enough to change. Just wish I didn't get so many blank looks from my local VW parts people

Socket didnt work because I didnt have one that fitted it. Just used chemical metal to buff up the diameter of the ball, moulded into a circle and then when hardened covered in LM grease to help its motion.
It has reduced the amount of for and aft play and gearchange feels much better, its 90% there now.
