A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Man.. have we finally stopped arguing over this?
Whoever created this poll was a genius.
How's about a Poll on World Peace?
A:
What is better......?
CLIMATE CONTROL........or AIR-CON? LOL!
A:
Air con on any golf <mk5 thankyou (havent used the mk5 system yet).
Climate control is an ****, and isnt as adjustable as a standard air con unit with a dial. Thats with 4 years experience using climate control on a mk4, and 2 years having air con on a mk3.
Whats better: Long or short hair?
A:
Long. Jesus has long hair.
A:
Short at the sides with a long mullet.
A:
My mate would say a turbo, probably N20 too, but thats cause he's always wanted a dump valve, so far he's had a XR3i , a 1.4 MK4 Escort , a Rover 216 and now a XR2i and to add insult to injury he often makes a ptush noise when he changes gear!
A:
I think the main reason this thread was brought back from the dead was so we could all laugh at GolfVR6 questioning Trendy Tramp and Phat about their knowledge of engines....... another example of "Engage brain, before yapping your ****ing mouth off"......
A:
PHAT and Trendy Tramp know feck all about engines - GolfVR6 is the man!!!!
A:
I've been in/owned various 1272cc polos with all three variations...
Nitrous tends to be a feeling of 'whoa... where the hell did that come
from?!', the G40 charger just makes it feel like a bigger engine and the
turbo makes it behave like a mad bugger. So in my opinion...
To drive every day - supercharger
To thrash about like a nutter - turbo
To be king of the strip - nitrous
A:
i have actually driven a few supercharged motors and they do run smoother than turbos but i have to admit, i would go with a turbo, simply for the sound. dont get me wrong, i aint no sad boy racer but the sound of a winding turbo when you floor it followed by the whoosh of a dump valve really is just such a sexy sound.
A:
Yes, definitely long hair.
A:
Admittedly, if I did it all again I'd probably look closer at the turbo option, but I've got the charger now and I'm sure I won't have many regrets once I'm running the stage 3 charge-cooled version..
A:
I think its a difficult choice between Turbocharged and Supercharged. If I had to make a decision it would be Turbo.
I have owned a Corrado G60 which was very nice - excellent to have all the power on demand all the time.
My current car a Celica GT-Four is Turbocharged and I much prefer it - although the power output is far higher than the Corrado so not really a fair comparison.
I like the turbo because you can drive the car normally for 90% of the time then when the road clears you use the second half of the rev range and woooosh!
A:
Superchargers are better..
A:
Turbo wins my vote because it uses a by-product of the combustion process (exhaust gases) to produce more power whereas a supercharger needs to be driven off of the crank via a belt so it uses power to make power.
A:
My vote would be 'none of the above'
Give me a well set up, high revving NA engine any day...perferably a big displacememt one.
I'll not buy another turbo car...great fun, great every day...but just not controllable enough. You just can't drive it on the throttle like you can a well set up NA car...it's not as much fun on the track and in my view simply not pleasant enough to make me buy another.
NA with DCOEs or ITBs...or failing that a well set up injection system...that'll do me.
Oh, and there's no debate on the rest:
Climate, every day...
And short hair!
A:
Long hair.
A:
Turbo for me.
Now I have a 1990 Lancia Delta Integrale 16v, which has a nice big Garret turbo (same as the Evo 1).
Downers:
- Expensive fully synth oil, change often
- Warm engine up before full boost
- Cool engine down before switch off
- High petrol consumption
- Need to be 'in the zone' - 3-5 k revs for best
- Refurb turbo after ~70k miles?
Uppers
- Torque (for overtaking)
- Torque (change down - no point)
- Torque (is that smell the clutch burning - oops!)
- Jeckyll n Hide effect. i.e. drives like normal car around town, then like a banshee when asked
- Overtaking surge (as long as you judge the lag correctly)
I do miss the simplicity and NA power curve of my old 8v and to a lesser extent my 16v, but this turbo thing has me hooked.

A:
Turbo, just because i have one
A:

A:
*cough* supercharger *cough*
