A&Q about 350Z
Q:
Why settle for just a turbo or just
a supercharger? I'm currently building an engine
with BOTH. A G-ladder and an IHI turbo. Best of both
worlds... low end grunt from the supercharger and
then the kick and top end punch of the turbo and then
the symphony is completed by the chuff of the dump
valve! nice eh.
G60 Matt has the right idea – in fact, Volkswagen has
just copied him! The new TSI engine for the Mk 5
Golf GT, making its debut at the Frankfurt Show in a
couple of weeks, has a supercharger AND a turbo
and produces 170 PS (167 bhp) and 240 Nm from a
mere 1.4* FSI engine! I drove one at the test track at
Wolfsburg last week, for a report in the next issue of
Volkswagen Driver magazine and it is sensational!
Oh, and did I mention? – it also returns an overall
average of 39.2 mpg...
* Yes, just 1390 cc !

I've had both turbo and just got my first g60 carrado and the turbo is probably the better option but the noise from the charger is ace and far better than a turbo. My advice be a man and get a charger.

As He Says da sound of a charger is just irresistable especially the mk2 Golf G60 , turbos sound like bags of bolts in comparison!!! but the turbo rush is far better, solution... combined!!!
A:
Turbo for me.
Couldn`t be bottomd to get the nos filled up all the time (unless they start selling it at the fuel pumps!)
G60 chargers discounted due to the reliability issues.
believe it or not the G-ladder is very effective if serviced properly not only that but if you look at the newer chargers (Eaton etc.) these are as reliable asthe turbo.

A:
supercharger as it comes free with rallyes!!
A:

A:

What a difference 10 months makes!
A:
So we all agree then? Short hair it is.
A:
No, long.
A:
"Doth not even nature itself teach you,
that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a woman have
long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering."
Not my words, Parz. The words of GOD.

I wrote that book - it was a typo.....

hi all new to the forum current car is a 87 5 door gti PB lump on
digifart inj currently completely standard (apart from oodles of rust)
Begining restoration now and transplant soon...
My previous dub some 8 years ago was a g40 polo which i have to
admit i mis now still and you just cant grumble at a lader....
Although said that had a crappy old ford escort cabriolet rst and all
be it a ford the power from a turbo is hillarious for the serious power
got to be turbo with nos fogger....imo :) But omg the induction of
lader is so sexy.....voted turbo but,id love a vr6 twin lader
conversion if there is such a thing?

A:
turbo
but with the new golf gt on it's way we could say supercharged and turbo , might aswell slap nos onto it too
A:
after going for a ride in my m8's 280 bhp subaru .. i say turbo power!
n/a can kiss my ass lol
A:
personally but a fat cam and some tb with stand alone management but if it has to be forced then a supercharger.
A:
In the perfomace stakes, there is no replacement for displacement. Large V8 or V12 wins every time on sound, power and reliablity. The yanks were getting 400+bhp in the late sixties along with the ability to cover 400K miles + without rebuilds. the down side is that was from engines of over 7litres and MPG was looking at 15 mpg if you were lucky. But the fuel usage is not that diffrent comapred to teh 400 BHP+ turbo jap cars of toady, but even they can't get the same reliabilty. and if you can get a 215 buick engine transversly into a Mini then I would supect you can get a 298 into a Mk2
A:
We also like cars to corner though.
A:
Well pointed out!

Well from what I heard, Nitrous is, and will always be, most bang for your buck. It costs less and with the right system, and could produce over 200 bhp instantly. But it will also tear up your engine unless done CORRECTLY. None of this Fast & Furious BS.
Turbo is highly reliable because of the turbo lag and it doesn't kick in until a certain RPM level. So it won't tear up your engine as much. It is also very popular because of the sound of the BOV. (PSSSSHHHH)
Superchargers are power all around. It will not produce as much power for what you pay, but is definitely most fun to drive. C'mon, power all the way around from when you hit the gas to letting off.
I currently have a VF Engineering charger in my '95 GTI VR6 which I replaced from a Kinetics turbo kit. I don't feel as much power, but it's way more fun to drive and is a lot smoother.
A:
blah blah blah, supercharger..... power from as soon as you put your foot down.... plus ive just paid to have one fitted so im biased towards it. everyone loves a turbo coz of the notiorious vooooooooooooom tissssssssshhhhhhhh
you know its true
