Hey, i have a choice between a 2000 golf gti or a 2002 golf gti. I know that the 2000 has only150 hp and the 2002 has 180 hp... what big upgrades where made between the years? which one should i buy... they are both 5 speeds. and if i go with the 2000 what should i upgrade first jus to give it a little more power??? thx much john

Im not aware of any significant other differences between 150-180 models(part from the turbo/map), although the brakes might be bigger on the latter.
In either cars case, the route to easy power will be a remap, where a std jobbie should add about 45hp to the 150.
surprised the 180 has a 5 speed bocx tho...

The 180bhp golf has vented rear discs and should have a 6 speed box as standard
like previously mentioned go for a remap 1st for a little more power

By that, i meant a basic generic remap, such as revo, upsoloute ect.
The garage would install it in about 15mins and it would cost something like £400ish.

Sounds like it isn't an anniversary edition, so it'll only be 150bhp. However it may remap a bit better than the MY2000 model if it's a drive by wire model (I'm not sure on the crossover year).

thought 180bhp models were KO3s turbos vs KO3 for 150

The 150 bhp model came with both turbos - AGU with the K03, and AUM with K03s. Difference was drive by wire for the AUM, and throttle cable fot the AGU. The AGU also has the big port head, where as the AUM got the small port head.

Only the 180bhp models had vented rear brakes!

AUM is VVTI KO3s Turbo. The ARZ 180 model uses identical turbo to the AUM engined model.
The later KO3s VVTI engines respond slightly better to a re map but the earlier models are better for bigger turbo applications. They also have stronger bearings poss stronger rods from what I have been told.

I have the 180 hp model. I still don't have any damn vented brakes!!
